Happy Birthday Lauren

-- The lasting haiku of Masaoka Shiki at Horyu-ji --

Happy Birthday to the woman who has it all - an absolutely amazing husband and two beautifully sweet little angel girls. You give meaning to my life, you are the butter to my bread, and quite often you literally butter my bread. On this day of celebration, I find that when words escape me I can most easily find them in a haiku:

Happy Birthday babe.
You are getting old, but don't
worry. You're still hot.

If you love Lauren and want to wish her a happy birthday, please leave her a birthday haiku, too.

love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love your adoring (and adorable) husband.

Ha ha ha. LOVE IT! Lauren, I wish I could write you an equally good haiku, but I cannot. I am not as good a writer as Nate. But I do want to tell you that I love you. And I hope you have a wonderful birthday. And you are the best!!

Happy Birthday Lauren Here is a Haiku that I didn't make up.

Haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense

What is haiku??? All I know is that on a birthday you sing a song and blow out the candles. I am out of it, as always. One thing I do know is that you are a beautiful, kind, loving, fun, accepting, strong woman. What a joy to know you! May you be blessed with many more happy days!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOREN NIBBER!!!!

(As your Aunt, I never have to stop using your childhood nickname--its in the Rule Book--you can look it up)

Cannot believe you are 26 years old. So many great memories of you and Catherine and Alex----loved sharing Christmas's and Halloween's with you.

Still love thinking about being at the base of city creek canyon one evening when you were maybe three, and your dad pointed to the glowing Capital Bld., asked you what it was, and you said in a very sinister voice, "It's a WITCH." Had to have been there but it was hysterical!

Another great Lauren moment was the hour of "Ba Ba Juuuuuuice" and upon receiving juice intermediately crying for "Ba Ba miiiilllk." Very funny now, but the whole weekend of babysitting you almost made me never want to have children of my own. Almost.

And of course the taunt that sent Catherine over the edge EVERY time was the infamous "I'm 5 your 3."
Loved it!

You have grown into a smart, beautiful, creative and funny woman. (Clearly you get that from your Aunt Laurel. Sorry Aunt Pam)

So, Nathan has requested a Haiku:

"The Nibber is Old
But not quite Cougar lev-el
Eat! Cake warm milk cold."

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY--
Much love,
Aunt Lo-lo

I had no clue what a Haiku is, so I looked it up:
Haiku (俳句 haikai verse?) listen (help·info), plural haiku, is a form of Japanese poetry, consisting of 17 moras (or on), in three metrical phrases of 5, 7, and 5 moras respectively.[1] Haiku typically contain a kigo, or seasonal reference, and a kireji or verbal caesura. In Japanese, haiku are traditionally printed in a single vertical line, while haiku in English usually appear in three lines, to parallel the three metrical phrases of Japanese haiku.[2] Previously called hokku, haiku was given its current name by the Japanese writer Masaoka Shiki at the end of the 19th century.

I still don't know what a Haiku is. Happy Birthday Lauren!

With dark or light hair,
in spite of her "tiger butt",
she is beautiful.

Though she's not perfect,
never fails to be honest-
which is refreshing.

Has SO many skills,
all of which I'm jealous of,
yet remains humble.

With just the right words
she always appreciates
her husband and kids.

Twenty-six was good;
hope it is for you as well.
Glad you have your Nate.
